The Lion’s Den

Clouds align the sunset tonight
The usual lively orange tones
Are an empty, lifeless grey
Reality suddenly loses balance
Once you’ve felt the weight of evil’s hand
fall upon your bones
Witnessed your worst fear’s force
Descend upon you
The gravity of Calvary vividly unfolding
We’ve been sleeping in the lions den and are just noticing

Saturated glimpses of the past flash before eyes
Hallowed snippets of life affixed
To bold those red words,
Over and over,
I’d read
Promises
Plastered throughout halls and walls
Scarlet red promises
Nailed to a cross
The gravity of Calvary
Unmistakably unfolding
We’ve been sleeping in the lions den and we’re just now, noticing

Wounded pride, fainted greed, money, false acceptance, vanity
We know not the significance
Yet words, vices, ceaselessly tossed around
Flying swords,
And we’re breaking down
Yes, we’re breaking down
Desensitized, oppressed,  and lost,
We mourn
We’re self created disasters
The gravity of Calvary is reborn
Sleeping in the lions den and we’re just now noticing

Promises
Plastered throughout halls and walls
Scarlet red promises
Nailed to a cross
The gravity of Calvary
Unmistakably unfolding
We’ve been sleeping in the lions den and we’re just now, noticing

Promises
Plastered throughout halls and walls
Scarlet red promises
Nailed to a cross
The gravity of Calvary
Unmistakably unfolding
We’ve been sleeping in the lions den and we’re just now, noticing

And I can’t remember a time
When there hasn’t been suffering
Upsurges readily approaching,
The ground beneath us screams
Denial, Aborting truth, lies polluting,
Euthanizing our youth
The gravity of Calvary is arising
We’ve been sleeping in the lions den all this time
And we’re just now noticing
Yeah we’ve been sleeping in the lions den
Now the lion is roaring
