Twelve foot stained glass windows encase
A little girl
in an unfamiliar place
Mural painted ceilings carry
Inscriptions affixed to hymns
Unknowingly she carries on her tiny lips
In them she has seen where victory lies
beyond the meadows of everyday lives
Stained glass windows align
Our souls...
windows into eternity
What braids these two together
Faith birthed from agony?
Is it organ’s sweet song that brings us to our knees
the sacrifice, the offering?
the heartfelt pleas or joy filled praises?
Is it the all encompassing love changing our hearts,
Our stumbling feet as we trip upon?
Or is it
the faith of a child that sees
You and me
Twelve foot stained glass windows encase
A little girl
in an unfamiliar place
Mural painted ceilings carry
Inscriptions affixed to hymns
Unknowingly carried on her tiny lips
In them she has seen where victory lies
beyond the meadows of everyday lives
Stained glass windows align
Our souls...
windows into eternity
Inside this little girl
stained glass windows reflect
Battles won and lost,
and those we have yet to win
Courage stands
The weight of the crosses we bear
Exposed
by whirlwinds,
that brought us to this place
Between the door and alter
Oh the strains of our humanity
separating, screaming
Between the door and alter
Stand you and I
